PBMs are middlemen that control the outpatient prescription business, and own/operate their own pharmacies.   According to current laws and regulations, they are allowed to keep their financial arrangements secret from plan sponsors, government agencies, and the public. PBMs use their wealth and power to limit patient access, raise drug prices, and crush “outside” pharmacies.
